In what way's does your media product use develop or challenge forms and convention's of real media product's.

At the initial planning stage i firstly had to choose which genre to make my film. I decided to make a horror as i believed it would turn out the best with the resources that are available. Therefore i had a starting point for my research. To begin with i researched the horror genre as a whole and i watched lots of horror trailer's to get the initial feel of them and to see how they tended to flow. The more i watched the more of an idea i got of how they are done professionally and i started evolving a story around them. Finally i got an idea of the storyline i was going to do, although it was not actually like any of the horror storyline i had seen so far. Also i decided to mix the genre horror with another genre, although this is not uncommon as most film's are hybrid genre's now. However i decided i was going to mix the genre's horror and romance which was rare. As these genre's are not usually mixed and each of it's main feature's go against the other one's convention's, it was hard to research so i decided to research the genres separately. However i did think it was going to be a good idea because as it was rare to do it was not going to be typical and predictable but original which is what i wanted. As i wanted my movie to have the more fast paced feel and full of tension i decided to make it more of a horror therefore i researched that most. There were certain trailer's i was trying to look for so i could try and find out how i could shoot the different aspects of my trailer.

Whilst researching horror trailer's on youtube, there were a few that really made an influence to my trailer. Firstly the trailer for the film 'Red Dragon' not because of how the actual trailer flowed or how it felt watching it but because of the story line of the film. It's about a serial killer who meets someone and accidental end's up falling in love with her, which is like my trailer. Therefore i analysed how the murderer acted differently towards the person he was falling in love with, and his victim's, and how this changed the more he seemed to fall in love. For example there's a clip in the red dragon trailer where he's on the sofa with the woman, and she's looking quite content but he seems stiff like he can't let his guard down. It's like he's really trying hard not to feel the way he does but he can't help it. In my trailer there is a similar scene where the murderer and woman are on the sofa in which he does not seem as relaxed as she does. This is because i was trying to get across the point that he's uncomfortable and not used to loving actions and feeling, as he probably didn't have much of a loving childhood either which is why he's grown in to the man he has.

Another trailer i tried to find was one with lot's of running and hiding and generally lot's of action but with out actually seeing anyone get killed. Whilst looking for this i found the film 'Prom Night'. This helped me as i analysed how the director used different camera angles for the different aspects. Also how they created lot's of tension and action with out actually seeing the deaths. For example in prom night there's a clip in which one of the girl's running away from the murderer goes and hides under a bed, and then he walks into the room and she can see his feet. This created tension with out even using much action. In my movie i imitated and developed this scene as it was simple enough to shoot but very effective.

The other film that made a big influence on my trailer was the French film 'Mutants'. In there trailer they moved from one scene to another by lot's of flashing light's. This confused the audience and un-nerved them. I wanted my trailer to have this effect so i decided i was going to use the same effect. However i developed it by putting some gory images in between the flashes. This make's the audience not take there eyes off the scene as they are confused and want to know what the flashing images are of which builds up the tension. This is also a very effective way to get from one scene to another. I used it to get from one killing to another to show it's a different girl.

The beginning of my trailer sticks to the conventions of a romantic movie, and the ending of my trailer stick's to the conventions of a horror movie but putting them both together is unusual although it does work.

In the first part of my trailer all the clips are quite slow and some are even in slow motion, with some 'fade in and outs' in between the clips, making them slower. The pace is very chilled and relaxed. The text between the clips (except the last one) are all the traditional, lovey dovey, boy meets girl and they fall in love. However the main signifier in film's is the music. In my trailer it starts out like any other romantic trailer:slow and relaxed, which makes the audience feel this way too. By getting the audience as relaxed as possible, it makes the second half even more effective because of the dramatic change. However so my trailer captured the audiences attention straight the way i put the shot of one of the girl's hiding under the bed as the opening shot. It's deadly silent, all you can hear is the girl breathing. So when it goes into the romantic part after it confuses the audience and make's them want to know what was happening with the girl, that keeps them watching.

The second part of my trailer is a lot more fast paced, with shorter clips and faster editing which makes the audience tense whilst watching it. The music also quickens and gets louder with the pace. It comes in quickly after the last piece of text which says 'But is it all as it seems?'. Whilst i was researching horror trailer's i realized that it's fast paced music through the majority of it, then right near the end it goes nearly silent then with another sudden burst of music to finish it off. This is how the sound goes on mine too. The silence in the clips near the end of marianne hiding in the bushes leads the audience a false sense of security and lets them untense, which makes it more of an effective ending to have a sudden bit of action which is enhanced by the sudden loud music to end it all off.

During the whole trailer it's only the murderer who is in it all and he's portrayed different in the different sections. Unlike the first half in the second he wears all dark clothes and a hat (although he did wear a hat for a scene in the beginning). This indicates the typical 'baddy' in black, and the victims were wearing light coloured clothes. All the victims were also all typically women who were represented as the sterotype weak feminine girl as they didnt put up a fight which is what usually happens in horror films so it was sticking to the conventions.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary task's?

My main product was my film which was then advertised by my film trailer, poster and magazine cover.

The top three images are still's from my trailer, then theres my poster and magazine.

The main image that link's all three of my product's together is Danny (the murderer) as he is in all three. He's the main character in the film which means he's the main image in my poster and mag too. People would be able to see it's the same person easily as he's portrayed the same in all three product's so even if my poster did not have the title on it people would still be able to tell it's a poster for Love hurts.

The main indicator though is the title and as you can see it's wrote the same in both the ancillary task's and the same colour in all three products. For all my product's colour was a big factor for me, and it linked all my product's together. The mojority of all my stuff is in black, white and red.

In my trailer the second half of all my clips were in black and white and when the text comes up, red flows across it. Then in my poster it's all in black and white except the blood and the titles. My magazine cover has colour in it but the backgrounds near enough black and the title's are in red again and there's some random, red blood splats on the cover too.

The black and white indicates that everthing's split into two: either good or bad, there no in between. As there's no colour in it, it make's everything more eary as there's no bright colours to indicate brightness and happiness.

Red is the only colour in all three products . In the poster it's only the blood that's in colour as well as the title's that look like they have been written in blood, which is also the same for the magazine cover. As this is the only colour, it show's it's importance. The main signifier for the colour red is usually blood, danger or love. These things things is what my film is all about. The blood and danger because the main persons a serial killer who kill's woman. However he end's up falling in love with a woman , much against his own will, which is the love part. I made the colour red important in my work because of the way it make people feel when they see it.

The way iv created all my products make's my film mainly aimed at 'D.I.N.K.Y's, or young couple's but who are over the age of 18. This is because it's all about someone falling in love which would appeal to couple's who would watch it together, or maybe mainly woman would like the romance side of it. Although the love story in my film is under strange circumstances because the woman is falling in love with a serial killer. This side of is what would attract it to the males so my film has a wide target audience. The ancillary task's are also aimed at both unisex as i dont beleive its aimed at one sex more than the other.

My film does not have a specific release date shown on any of the products, it just says coming soon on the trailer and the poster. If my film was going to be released in real life the release date would be shown in teaser's trailer closer to the time of it's release date and maybe on a different layout poster. For now my products are to get the audience excited about the film coming out in the future so by the time it did come out, it would have so much advertisement that a large scale of people would want to watch it.

What have you learned from your audience feedback?

Since the first draft of my trailer, poster and movie magazine i got individual feedback off different people all the way through to my final peice. It helped me extreamly because as i am working on my own, it was helpful to have a different set of eyes to point out things i would not have noticed on my own, to improve my work.

When i had completed a final draft for my film trailer, the whole class got to see it so they could give there feedback. The main negative feedback i got was that the narrative needed to change or more shots needed to be added in to make it make more sense and so it was clearer what was happening. I acted upon this by firstly changing the text at the beginning to explain what was happening more, instead of having to film extra shots. The text said originally 'Falling in love is susposed to be a beautiful thing...But what happens when...You fall in love...With a serial killer?...' People said with the text like this it's not that clear whether all the clip's of him killing are in the past or wether he's still killing whilst falling for the woman. I re-watched my trailer myself after the feedback and decided to best way to change the narrative would be to show that all the killings were in the past. To do this i turned all of thoses clips into black and white and in as the romantic scenes were just finishing and the scenes from the past were coming on, there was a flash of white light to indicate they are in the past too. After the the trailer this leaves the audience wondering what the murderer is going to do with the girl in the beginning: whether he's going to kill her too, or wether he is actually falling in love with someone. Leaving the audience questioning is what's going to make them watch the film.
The only other negative feedback i got for my trailer was that the second half is mainly concentrating on the girl's, so it needs to be more clear that the man in the first half, who is suposedly falling in love is the same man in the second half, who is killing the woman. To overcome this problem i simply shot ab few more clips of the man and added them into the second half so there was more footage of him.

Once i had completed the first draft for my film poster and magazine cover i also shown these to the class.
I had created two poster's and wanted to know which one people liked the most and about 90% of people said they prefered the second one. As for the feedback for it everyone said they really liked it and that nothing needed to be changed. They thought that the layout of it was alot more effective and worked well in black and white. Also the picture of the girl is made alot more effective in the second poster than the first. Therefore i obviously chose the second idea for my final.

For my magazine cover i asked people which background they liked most out of two pictures of different trees and the set background called patina. I had had it orginally set for the first set of trees but after my feedback everyone said they prefered the 'patina' background so i reset it to that.

The other feedback was just small things after that, for example the shapes that were placed behind the advertisments were solid blocks and people thought that they should be less obvious. To do this i changed the opacity down from 100% of colour to 65% which made them more see through then solid colour. Then people just gave advise about moving the positions of things around a little but, like they said the text 'All new movies reviewed and rated' could do with being moved down a little bit so it's not blending into the white shirt of the main picture.

I welcomed everyone's feedback and asked people to be as critical as possible, so i could change my work accordingly so i could get the best possible outcome.

How did you use media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages?

To get to my completed trailer, poster and movie magazine i had to use many technologies, in which i had to develop my skills in most of them to get the most effective outcome.
To get my completed trailer i obviously used a camcorder to film my footage and a tripod to place the camera on. Once i had filmed my footage i used a fire wire to import my clips on the school mac. On this mac i edited the footage i had at that time. I cut the clips down and made some of the clips black and white and out the aged film effect on them. This however made the size of my project really big as each effect was taking up lots of room. This made the school mac really slow for everyone. I then found out that my sister had a macbook so i put my work on a disk and took it home with me to work on it there. My sister's macbook is more up to date then the school mac's so i had to figure out who to work most of it by myself. To edit my trailer on imovie i cut down all the clip's to as short as possible to make it flow better. Also to keep the pace of the trailer as i wanted i changed the speed of some of the clips, for example the shot of the murderer and woman cooking at the beginning of the trailer was slowed down because i wanted to keep the pace slow and relaxed at the beginning for more of a shock at the sudden change. Then for a number of the clips in the second part were speed up as i wanted the pace alot faster to keep everything tense, For example i speeded up the end of the clip when the murderer comes out of the doorway and pulls the girl in backward. This made it look like it happened really fast so she didn't have a chance to get away.

The technology i used most was Blogspot as i updated at least every other day. The first thing i did after creating a blog was to put a background onto it to personalise it. Then i updated it regularly which my research and planning. My research and planning i mainly done on youtube, so i created an account for. I downloaded quite a few trailers off youtube and uploaded them onto my blog, For example i downloaded the trailer for 'True Romance' when i was researching romance thriller's because i wanted to know what sort of camera angles to use as the storyline for this film is quite similar to mine.
Another application i learnt how to use was slideshare because i uploaded some powerpoints onto my blog so i could get across all the information needed but by using different medias and technique's to make it more fun and effective. I downloaded a powerpoint which had lots of different posters on, so it was all in one place instead od downloading lot's of individual pictures of posters. I also done the same with magazine covers and a number of other things.

Even though i had someone helping me out with the background music for my trailer i still went on soundcloud to try and find some music that Chris could work with so he knew exactly how i wanted it so he could work faster and i would get the music i wanted. I aslo gave him examples from other movie trailers off youtube even though they were not copy right free. In case of emergencies and for some reason if i could not get the music that Chris had done for me i made my own music on garageband so i had a back-up.

Once the whole of my trailer had been complete i tried many different ways to try and bring it back into school. Firstly i tried bringing it into school on a hard-drive, however it did not work on the school mac's because my sister's mac is more up to date so the hard-drive had been set for the newer version of mac's. Therefore i tried bringing it in on a memory stick but it had been saved in a format which was newer then the school one's so yet again i couldn't get it on school mac's. My next attempt was to upload it onto youtube then download it again at school. However the name of the music software Chris used came up over the top of my film when it uploaded onto youtube so that was no good either. After that i tried to send an email to myself with it in, so i could re-open it at school and download it, however the file was too big to go into an email even though i had compressed it earlier. The last thing i could think of which i done was upload it onto a free website then download it back off on my laptop and save it on to there. The website i used was megaupload.com. Once i had downloaded it back onto my laptop i burnt it onto a DVD, which i then brought into school. However when i then brought the DVD into school the music and the film had saved into different files so i then i had to use some software to put the two back together. For this i used the software 'Windows Premeire'. I uploaded the two files and put them together then burnt the whole trailer off onto a new DVD.

To create my film poster and movie magazine i used photoshop. This was a new technology as i had never used it before. So all my skills for photoshop started out as nothing which have developed through the last six months which has led me to create an effective and professional movie poster and magazine to advertise my film. I used a large number of different effects and techniques on this programme and i know now how to use them confidently to produce good work.

Iv got Chris Myers doing my background music for me as it can not be copy right and he went university to do music and sound.
To give him idea's of what i exactly wanted i researched music on already existing trailers. The one i liked most that would fit into my work was the music from the newest Halloween film.

I like the all the sound, all the way through it. For my work iv asked Chris to go along the line of this trailer. For the romantic beginning in mine i think the slow eary music from the halloween trailer would work if made slightly more up beat and romantic instead of eary.

Then for the second part of my trailer I want it to suddenly go fast beat like the rest of the music in the Halloween trailer. I told him to go with any thing in the Rob Zombie sytle music.

For my trailer i want the music to start as the Anchor bay entertainment logo comes on not before as i want the shot of Georgie under the bed to be silent, with just the sound of Georgie breathing heavy. I also want the shot of Marianne at the end, hiding in the bush to suddenly go silent, then with a sudden loud bang as Danny comes in with the log then for it to go silent again after.
This is a common effect, that the trailer begin's in silence then going into music for the majority of the trailer, for it to go silent near the end again and then to end with a sudden loud noise.

This is another Rob Zombie film, 'The devil's Rejects'. The sound on it works really well and it's really effective to make watching the trailer really tense. This is why i want to stick to a Rob Zombie style music for my trailer.

Just in case Chris didn't have time to do the music i wanted for my trailer, i went on Garageband and made my own back-up background music too.

Alot of the techniques i used for my poster, i used for my magazine cover too.

Like my poster i had to use a digital camera to take the picture's for my magazine.

The Tools and techniques i used and where:

Magnetic lasso tool-to cut around the picture's i used, and then coped and pasted them onto my main magazine.
Frame's & Backgrounds-I used the ready background called 'Patina' that was in the frame's and background bit in photoshop.
Text- there's lots of text on my magazine which are all of different colours, fonts and size. The 'Love' is in the font blackadder. I put it in this font because it was swirley which is a typical style to write the word love. The 'Hurts' is in the font chiller. I put it in this font because it look's like it's been written in blood. The two different font's help get across the two different side's to the man. Most the other writting is in the font bookman which was chosen because it's quite formal.
Adjusting lighting- I adjusted the colour, lighting and contrast on every picture on my magazine to make them as clear as possible and make them stand out.
Artwork- I used alot of different already existing shapes from photoshop on my magazine cover. I used the star shape to get the five stars under the title of the film. I also a bunny shape, to make it look like the boy from the film twelve again was drawing it on to the magazine. This was sussposed to be a fun, loving family film which was helped put across by the boy messing about. Then i used 3 'crop' shapes which are placed behind the advertisement's. I lowered the opacity on these, so there weren't a solid block of colour. Lastly i used two other crop shapes that look like splatter's. I placed these behind some text on the magazine, then turned them the red and lowered the opacity again. this make it look like blood splatter's, although iv made them so there not really obvious.
Eyedropper tool- Iused this so i could get all the crop shapes the same colour and also the blood splatters.

To get my final piece for my poster I used a lot of different techniques to make it effective.

First of all I obviously used a digital camera to take the pictures that are on my poster.

However what i believe I have developed most this year are my skills on photoshop. Last year as I chose to do a trailer, the only time i used photoshop was the beginning of 2008, where we where shown the basic skills on how to use it.
The techniques i used on photoshop, and where i used them...

Magnetic lasso tool- to cut around the pictures i used, i then copy and pasted them onto my poster.
Gradient tool-i used this to effectively smear black and white together for my background.
Adjusting colours-I adjusted the colours of both my pictures to black and white and then changed the lighting and contrast to make it look as effetcive as possible.
Brush tool-I used this to paint in the blood on the man's chest and on the girl's face to make it stand out from the black and white. I also used the painting tool to colour the man's eyes in red to make them stand out more and make him look evil.
Smudge tool- I used this to smudge the line at the bottom of the picture of the girl into the white back ground. This made the colours flow better instead of leaving it as a thick line.
Text- All my text on my poster is of all different sizes and colours. The main text 'Love Hurts' is in bold, and in red, then i added the effect on it to make it seem more 3D, and it make's it sort of look like it's been written in blood. The coming soon is in font in the same red as the title and blood. The text at the bottom is really small because on real film poster's the text is nearly unreadable at a4 size. It's in grey so it does not stand out as much as the other texts because it's not as important, but just says who the director, actors are and who the music's by etc.
Eye Dropper tool- I used this so i could get the exact same colour of the blood for the titles, and the murderer's eyes.

This is my first try at my poster this year, and my final piece. As you can see my photoshop skills have came along way since September, as my poster has came along way. My first draft looks very amateur and like an 8year has done it. As my skills developed, my poster changed dramatically and now looks like a professional movie poster.

The flashing images:

In the second half of my trailer where it turns from being a romantic into a thriller, there's lots of fast flashing images. These were put in to make the pace of the trailer faster to create more tension for the audience. Also it split up the shots of the different girls getting chased etc so it was clearer for the audience to see they were different girls not all the same one.

What the flashing images were of:
1. The first load of flashing images were: my younger brothers face with make up on(P1), he supposed to be a dead girl (he makes a pretty girl and you can not tell it's actually a boy). Then my sister's legs(P2), lying on the floor, with one of her shoes fallen off, then back to my brothers face (P1)

2.The second load of flashing were images of:my brother's mouth with blood coming out of it(P4), then a spider (P5) which was in my kitchen which i had to keep blowing on to make it move so i could film it, then the whole of my brother's face again with make up on(P1), then lastly a sheep (P5) which has had it's middle eaten out of him which i saw when i went on holiday in Scotland about 2years ago, in a field near a castle.

3.The third lot of flashing images were of: my brother's eye with make up(P6) , then his mouth(P3) , back to his eye again (P6) , then a clip of my sister pulling cling film over her face.

4. Then the last of the flashing images were of: My brother's face(P1) , then my sister's leg's (P2), then my brother's face again(P1).

Some feedback i got from my trailer:
Criticisms/Changes:
Firstly i got told i could have a opening shot that's more relevant to my trailer. It was a good shot (A tracking shot of some woods) but needed more relevance to the beginning of my trailer. It's relevant in the way that's where the murderer killed some of his victims which is in the trailer. However a shot that links nicely to the beginning of the trailer (the romantic part) would flow nicer. CHANGE- I am going to change the shot completely and change it to something like a panning shot of the big house there in at the beginning.
Another criticism was to cut the shots down more to make it flow faster although i had not finished cutting the shots down properly yet anyway. CHANGE- I have since then cut all the shots down as much as possible which makes the speed faster. I have also quickened up some of the shots to make the whole of the trailer have a faster tempo and increase the tension.
The other criticism i got was that it needed to be made more clear that the man at the beginning of the trailer who is falling in love with the woman is also the same man who is murdering all the other woman in the second half of the trailer. CHANGE- To get over this problem I'm going to just add in a couple of short second long shots of the mans face in the second half to show it is the same man.
Also another criticism that links into the one above is that the people watching were not sure weather the second half is showing the murderers past or weather he is still doing these killings now, even though he's falling in love. CHANGE- To help the audience understand the narrative slightly better, which is that the murderers still killing women even though he's now met someone, is that iv just moved one of the clips from the beginning, romantic part of the murderer and woman and put it in between the shots of the killings to show its happening around the same time.
Also when people watched it, it didn't have any of the background music on so obviously that needed to be added.
The bits people liked:

People liked the general idea of my trailer because it was unusual but still it worked well. The mixing of a romantic with a thriller.
They really liked the quick, flashing images in the second half.
Wide range of camera angles were used.
All the shots were clear and flowed nicely.
The texts were good and explained things nicely also the transitions between them all made it flow well and there were effective.

After the feedback for my poster, everyone said they liked it, the only thing to change was the postioning of the pictures and texts. I tried a number of different layouts and found it difficult to find an effective one. After alot of medling i tried changing the colours around aswell as the layout. It made my poster have a whole different feel and look.

Changes...
What i changed from the other posters was that the picture of one the women victim is now near the top of the screen in a slanted postion. It is also a bit larger and now in black and white and quite faded. This had made this picture alot more effective than when it was at the bottom of the screen in colour.
The postioning of the murderer has changed slighty too. Its been moved down slighty and moved more to the right. This image has also been changed to black and white and been faded but not as much as the other image.
The tagline was one the the main bits which i was finding differcult to postion correctly. However on this poster it goes quite nicely at the very top on it's own. I have also changed it slighty from 'Love is suppost to be a beautiful thing' to 'Love is a beautiful thing' because it now makes it irronic as the pictures are of a bloody man and woman.
The title of the film and the rest of the texts ('coming out soon' and the actors and dirctors name ect) is all at the very bottom and wrote really small, its hardly readable as the size the poster is on the computer, but it would be larger if the poster was made larger like it would do if it was for a real film. All movie posters do this, as the writting is not that important but needs to be on there.

For my magazine cover i got really good feedback about the main picture. Everyone said it was very effective and realivent to show the split personality of the man. They also said they really liked the title for my magazine and the style it was in and especially how i drew the 'OW' in it.

Some advise on bits i could alter was the go back to my first choice of background because it was darker and because the tree background made it look abit like a gardening magazine. Other than that people just gave some advise on moving a couple of words and advertisements around a little bit.

Some of the feedback i got for my poster was that there wasn't something right with either the postioning, colour, or the depth/layers of my poster. So firstly i tried altering the postion of the different layers and pictures. Then i tried altering the colours. Firstly i tried making the whole poster darker, but this didnt solve the problem, it just made it harder to see it. Then i tried making the picture of the murderer darker, it looked abit better but hen it didnt work well with the coloured picture. Therefore i turned the whole poster black and white, and adjusted the lighting slightly. This made the whole poster look alot better. The only problem with my poster now is some of the layout, i need to figure out where to put everything to make it effective.

Problems i had to over come with my trailer

Some problems i was faced with whilst filming which i had to over come...

Obviously there was problems with the actors, finding times where they were all off together, however this was not too bad because i keep my number of actors to a minimum, so this problem didn't occur.
The weekend i was going to take the cameras out to do my last bit of filming, i found out i wasn't going to be in on Monday so i could not take them. Because of this i manged to find a night during the week to take them out instead so i was not behind.
How quickly it was getting dark at night was a big problem because i have to work till 6 during the week which by that time it was already dark and i could not do nothing about it. To over come this i done all my inside filming during the week, and all the rest of the outside filming on the weekend. I found this was a good way so i was not doing lots at a time but i keep filming then editing during the week so i knew exactly what to film the next time.
On one Monday after i had finished the last bits of my filming, i went to do the editing and the mac i worked on was broke and i couldn't move my work onto another one until the next day so i couldn't do any work and i was nearly finished.
The next my work got moved but then i found out that all the effects on my trailer had made the size of my work huge which made the macs stupidly slow, and unable to work on them. Because of this i had to take my work off the macs. It was put onto the library's hard drive. This meant that the mac was OK again but when i went to work on it, it was still stupidly slow.
That night i found out that my sister had a mac book and hard drive so i could put my work on that and take it home. However my sisters hard drive would not work with the school macs because she had been using it on hers and her mac is a lot more modern the the crappy school ones. So i had to find another way of moving my work. In the end i managed to put on it on to a CD and i took it home. It was a bit difficult putting it onto my sisters mac as it was a lot different from the schools one but i finally manged to do it and complete my trailer.
After i had completed it, i needed to get a Cd so i could bring it back school. However the biggest problem was that my sister went to Belgium and took her laptop with her with my work on it and wont be back before we break up for Christmas :(

My titles sorted out, it's going to be called 'Picture Show' with the 'OW' and film reel and film. It's going to be in red as i have a red theme because of the connotations to it, and it's going to be in the font 'Imprint MT shadow'

The main focus of the magazine is the main character in the film. it's two pictures of the same person put together into one. This is to show he has a split personality in the film. The audience gets to see him leading a 'normal' life, falling in love, but then they also get to see him killing a number of women. This means this picture is getting across both sides of his life in one.

The background on my first draft is an effect called 'patina' which is on photoshop, which i then darkened. However i would like to put a setting picture in the background as this is what the majority of other magazines do. The setting in my movie is in a number of places, one being down a wooded lane. This is where i think I'm going to have my background photo taken.

I will also need some adverts on the front, advertising whats going to be inside the magazine. On other magazines they usually have other films coming out, and other contents that's going to be in the mag. For my magazine I'm going to have two or three adverts for other films with pictures. One of them being 'the night stalker' which was my film trailer in As. I will then make another two up.

These are some different layouts for my poster. If people could tell me which one they prefer or have any new ideas for a layout can they please comment. :)
The title in the first two are not that dark, there the same as the last one, they just didn't come out as clear.

To create these posters i cut out the two pictures on photoshop and placed the one of the girl in front of the one of the boy.

The background at first was all black but i changed it to an gradient effect which i thought was appropriate because it's black on one half where the murderer is and its fades to white towards the bottom half where one of the victims is. This is portraying the typical good and bad, light and dark scenario.
The title 'Love Hurts' is in two different fonts. The love is in 'blackadder ITC', and the hurts is in 'chiller'.

I decided to go with the name 'Picture Show' for my magazine. With choosing the name i fought i could be creative on its image. I decided that the 'O' in show could be a film reel, and the 'W' could be the film coming out of it. To do this i drew how i wanted it to look then coloured it in and outlined it in pen to make sure it was clearly visible. I then took a picture of it, imported it and cut it out in photoshop to put on my magazine.

After researching a number of movie magazine covers i found that they all contain:

The name of the magazine- this stays the the same font and size across all the same brand magazine. It's also in a large font so noticeable and is always at the top.
The title of the film its advertising- Most the time this in a large font too, smaller than the title but bigger than the rest of the writing and it usually goes across the main picture.
Picture of the main character/characters- This is always the main focus point of the magazine, and it's usually just the one person.
The background- This tends to be either plain or a setting of the place where the films set.
Price of the Magazine- The price of a movie magazine is usually in between
Bar code- This tends to be at the bottom of the magazine, but varies from left to right.
Name of the main characters- Sometimes the main characters names and even sometimes the directors name are on the front too but not usually.
Names of other films coming out- Pictures of other films coming out soon and the titles of them are often down the side of the magazine but not too big to take away the focus from the main picture.
The films tag line- This is not always included, but is sometimes added in near the title of the film somewhere.

Unlike the Empire and Total film magazines, Cine live seems a lot more dull at first impressions. The colors are a lot darker and there is less of them. They tend to stick to one colour. The writing is also not as bold or obvious as the other two magazines, it's wrote in a smaller and thinner font and is set behind the main picture. Although like the other two magazines the main focus is usually the main character or sometimes two characters. Cine live magazine front covers do also show other films that are coming out but they don't really contain any other adverts.

My Second Idea

I came up for the image of my second idea from the hills have eyes poster. I imitated the image of the girls face at the bottom of the poster looking scared with blood on her face and a hand covering her mouth. I think it's a very effective idea, that's why i chose to go for this style in my poster. However mine also contains the murderer in the background with blood all over his body and a knife in his hand. This gives more to the poster so it's not as plain, also to make it more unique. In the hills have eyes poster the main colour is a orangey, brown colour. For my poster iv decided to go for the same colours as the first idea for my poster as i believe that keeping it mainly one colour and then having red in it will be very effective and appropriate for the connotations. For my first idea the poster would be mainly white but for this one i want it mainly black. The background would be black and so would the skirt the man would be wearing. He would then have blood over his body and there would be blood on the girls face which would be the red, along with the titles, tag lines and actors names etc. Also for the title i chose to have the words love and hurts in different fonts. I want to put 'Love' in swirly, posh writing, and the 'Hurts' in a dripping font so it looks like it's been wrote in blood. This is to show how the story different and split by romance and thriller.

First i looked on the website teaser-trailer.com, and found that the average lengh of the teaser trailer on that website was in between 1.17 minutes and 2.33minutes. Then i looked at the definition of teaser trailers on wikipedia and it said they are typically between 30 seconds and 60 seconds long.

The front covers for love film don't seem to be as vibrant as the ones for empire, although they do still use bright colours but not as much or as many. The title for total film is usually in white although it does change in some magazine covers. The word 'film' is always in a large font, going across the whole width of page. Then the word 'total' is inside the word film in a small font. This is because the first thing they want the audience to see is the word film so they know what the magazine is about.

These poster colours tend to be very vibrant and stand out. The title 'Empire' is always in red. The titles for my poster are in red and therefore i will stick to the trend and keep one of the main colours on my magazine red too.
The backgrounds are either a plain colour or a picture of the setting, but it's always basic to keep the attention of the main focus which is the main character.

My First Idea

For my first idea i decided to go for the same image from the poster for p.s i love you, but then obviously put the darker side to it by making the man hold up a knife behind her. This then puts across the romantic side of the movie with girl and boy laying with each other, but then shows the dark side by him holding the knife. This mixes the two genres well together and evenly.

In my poster i would either have the picture in black and white or light colours. I would then make the woman wear bright red lipstick to stand out with the red titles. This would make red the only colour in the poster which is appropriate for it has the connotations of love and danger. The tag line 'Will he go with his urge to love, or his urges to kill?' will go underneath the title, also in red but in smaller font.

Mixing horror and Romance Posters

Mixing a thriller/horror and a romantic poster is obviously going to be a bit difficult because they do contain some opposite features. I need to find a way to mixing them to create a effective poster of my own.
Some differences are...

Horror posters usually contain one character, most commonly female and usually the victim. Where romantic posters tend to contain two characters, a man and a woman, who are normally the two that are in love in the film.

Horror posters tend to have no colour in them , they normally stay mainly black,
with a little bit of white. Compared to romantic posters which are more white and brighter colours.

Although probably the hardest contrast to get a mixture between is the facial expression's on the characters faces. Horror ones look very shocked and scared. Where as the romantic ones look very happy and content.

Horror Posters....

Whilst researching horror posters and what they contain i realised they tend to be very basic, with not a lot going on yet still very effective.

What they tend to contain:

A centre piece- the main focus of the poster, this tends to be a persons face, who is usually female.

The title- for horror films, the titles tend be be short, usually just a couple of words long.

The background- very basic, usually just a plain colour. This is so the poster don't get too hectic or take the focus of the main piece.

The tag line- this is usually on there to capture the audiences attention.

The actors- this is usually in small writing at the bottom, as its not a big feature or very important, but just there so people can see whose in the film.

In the majority of romance horrors, all the characters tend to be human except for the exception of Dracula.

Main Male Character: Usually the male is involved in the love side of the movie yet is usually the villain in the movie too, although a likable villain. Come across as a nice person who is doing bad things.

Main Female Woman: involved with the man, but is not up to the same naughty stuff as him. Somethings they don't know what he's up to, but the majority of the time they do.

Romantic thrillers, obviously has to include a romance going on between at least two of the characters, but with a action thrilling storyline going along side of it. This is exactly what my film is like making this the perfect genre to place my movie. Having knowing this i researched into other romance thrillers so see how they were done.

My favourite romance thriller is the 1993 movie 'True romance'. It has the title of a romantic movie, along with a love story that's no so romantic. It includes a number of famous actors and has the tag line 'Stealing, Cheating, Killing, Who said romance was dead?'

It relates to my movie not just by the genre, but also how the characters act. Not so much the main woman in film acting like Patrica Arquette, but more the main man in my film acting like Christen Slater. They both look and seem like average men on the surface, who have fell for a woman. Yet underneath the man in my film is a murderer and acts so casual about it, like its not unusual. Christian Slater in true romance also doesn't think twice about breaking the law, maybe not as bad, although he does kill a number of people too, and acts so casual about it. This storyline is quite like my own, yet different in many ways.

Researching thriller movies

As using the genre horror was confusing people about what my film would contain, i decided to look into the thriller genre. I found this definition on wikipedia:

"Thrillers are characterised by fast pacing, frequent action....."
"The genre is a fascinatingly flexible form that can undermine audience complacency through a dramatic rendering of psychological, social, familial and political tensions and encourages sheltered but sensation-hungry audiences, in Hitchcock's phrase, "to put their toe in cold water of fear to see what it is like."

I watched some thriller trailers to see what they contained, so i knew what to and what not to put in mine. Some that i looked at:

Psycho
Red Dragon
Leon
Memento

Alfred Hitchcock's 1960 movie 'psycho' is still one the most remember able thriller movies of all time. It could also be classed as a romance thriller because of the love story between Lila Crane and Sam Loomis.

After watching lots of already existing thriller movies i decided my movie was definitely more a thriller than a horror. Looking back at my questionnaire on question 8, when asking people if they thought thriller and romance went well together all 20 said yes. This means my target audience will have expanded as more people would want to watch my movie. Therefore i am now classing my movie as a thriller romance which is already a genre in its own.

Opening scene: scenery - Panning shot or tracking shot which i will do by filming out the side of a car window.

More Changes to the trailer

Yet again iv decided to make some changes in the way i shoot my trailer. It was going to be starting out as a romantic, with the main woman and man getting to know each other. Then in between these clips i was going to show some fast, flashing gore scenes. It would then finish with showing the audience that the man in the love scenes is the same man that killing these other woman.
However once i had shot some of my trailer and id started editing i found it wasn't as fast paced as i first thought, and slightly boring, which i did not want. Therefore i decided to change around how i shot it. This was my new idea:
I still wanted to start it looking like a romantic, that way i could still use the shots i already done too. In between some shots when it faded to black writing would come up saying, something along the lines of: "Love is supposed to be a beautiful thing...." "But what happens when...." "You fall in love with a serial killer?...." The dots mean there's clips in between those bits of writing.
After the last bit of writing, the music speeds up and gets louder. Then there will be lots of shots of the murderer chasing and killing girls. This will make my trailer a lot more fast paced and exciting, by making the majority of the trailer a thriller instead of romantic. It will end this way too. At one point i might show a clip of the murderer with the woman hes fell in love with, just to make sure the audience knows it's not her he's killing but other women. Also this will make a nice quiet break in the excitement to really show the contrast.

Inspirations:
The movie trailer i watched that really inspired me and made me think to shoot my trailer this way was the 2008 movie 'Prom Night'.

It has the same narrative in the trailer as i want my trailer to have. It starts out looking like a romantic but then kicks into a thriller to surprise the audience.

Mise en Scene

Costumes:

Danny (murderer):
Romantic scenes: In the romantic parts of the film, where hes falling in love he wears jeans, white trainers, and light colour tops. These are every day clothes for a 25 year, which is trying to get across that he is 'normal'.
Gory scenes: This is in contrast to the gory scenes, where hes hardly seen but what is shown, hes all in black to show his dark twisted side.

Siouxsie (Main woman):
Through out the trailer siouxsie is wearing bright colourful dresses, and skirts. This is to show she's vulnerable and feminine. She dresses to match her personality, bright and cheerful. This image of the vulnerable female makes the audience feel more sorry for her when they realise whats going on.

Victims:
The victims which are shown only come up seconds at a time and its usually there bare skin which is shown. However there are glimpse of there clothes and they wear short shirts and low tops. This shows the murderer goes for the good looking females who come across as helpless, which is ironic because it's the same sort of girl he's fell for.

Props:
A knife will be used in the gory shots as the women will be getting stabbed and slashed. A real knife will be used. It will be just an ordinary sharp kitchen knife.

Fake blood will be used to splatter across the victims. I brought the fake blood already made from asda.

Lighting:

All the lighting in the trailer will either be natural light if shot outside or artificial light in the indoor scenes. No extra lights will be added, making it look natural. The gory shots will be shot in the same lighting, with the same brightness, but i will make those shots darker on the mac so it looks like it was shot in dimmer light. This will give it an eary but realistic effective as when the murderer tortured and murdered the girls it would be somewhere quite out the way and in the dark.

Location:

The shots that in inside will all be done in my own house. Some of the outside shots are shot on the park opposite my house, an the rest of the outside shots are taken on the street outside my house. Every location i used is right at hand to make my filming as easy as possible, and this will make sure no issues come up about being able to film somewhere, or problems with being able to get somewhere.

Music

For my trailer and the way I'm going to shoot it, i decided that i wanted a slow and romantic song to go to it. I decided this because the trailer is going to be portrayed as a romantic to begin with. As for the fast gory clips that will flash up through out it, i want a screeching like sound to come up with it to unsettle the audience. I believe this will be the most effective because it will catch the audience by surprise and unsettle them.

I am not aloud to use any already existing music for copy right reasons. To get around this my sister's boyfriend Chris Myers is going to help me. He went to university to study music therefore he knows how to play and apply it to films. After i have completed my movie, i will give it to Chris along with samples of what sort i music i want on it along with sound effects for the screeching noise. Once he's done his half we will watch it together and i will say what changes need to be made if necessary.

Changed version of Trailer

My first idea of how i was going to shoot my trailer was i was going to show the murderer following the first young lady and killing her. Then following a second women and killer her. When he follows the next, he ends up meeting her and falling in love but with still having urges of killing her. However i came to the conclusion this is more like a film opening or a short story not a trailer so i decided to change things around a bit.
The way i decided to shoot my film trailer instead was to show the murderer meeting the women he falls in love with her and to show the audience them getting to know each other. This gives the impression from the beginning it's more of a romantic movie not a gory one, which will shock the audience more when the violence does happens. In between showing the man fall in love with the women i am going to show the man killing a number of other women as well. This will confuse the audience and leave them with lots of questions, wondering whats going on, which will leave them wanting to watch the film.
However with doing the trailer this way i had problems with coming up with ideas on how to end the trailer. Therefore i decided that in the gory shots i wouldn't show the man who was doing the murders. So instead the audience watching would be thinking "whys it showing you gory clips in a romantic?" then i could end the trailer by showing the mans face, to show that its the same man that's seems to caring and falling in love, who is also a women hater and a murderer.

For this trailer to be affective and shocking, I'm going to make the gory clips flash up really fast as not to give to much off.

While researching other film trailer that do this i found this French movie trailer i really liked:

I like the trailer for this film because i like how it changes from one shot to the next. It makes the audience uneasy, and causes a lot of tension. Therefore i would like to use this effect in my movie on the violent parts to unsettle the audience.

Representation of characters

Daniel Clayton
The main male character, Danny, is represented in two different lights. The first side of him you see is a caring, loving person who's just meet a girl and is falling in love. This is how the audiences sees him through the majority of the trailer. However he also had a twisted, dark side to him although the audience don't get to know that this evil man, committing these murders is the same man being shown in the rest of the trailer till the end. Through the romantic parts of the trailer he'll be represented as a stereotypical 25 year old, with a simple but modern dress. His outfit is of the norm for the age, which is trying to put across the image of a typical young lad, with nothing obviously 'strange' about him.

Siouxsie Guest
Siouxsie is the main female in the trailer, in which Danny falls in love with. Like Danny she is represented as a normal 25 year old who dresses with fashion. However unlike Danny, she is what she comes across to be, and has no hidden agenda. Towards the end of the trailer, she goes from coming across as a string female character, to a weak character, as she's getting played and is fooling for it, with out having a clue whats really going on.

Target Audience

The main target audience my movie is going to attract is teenage females and males to adults. Its going to attract the females because of the romantic side to the story. They will enjoy following how the couple are getting to know each other and fall in love. Although the story has a more sinister side to it, this is why the males will want to watch it because they will be attracted to the violent and gory parts of the movie. By making a hybrid genre of horror and romance, it allows me to attract a much larger target audience compared to a single tracked genre film. It would be a good film for couples to watch as it is about a couple, and them falling in love but with a dark twisted side to it. It involves a dark sense of humour, with also showing the reality of some people not knowing anything about the background and history of the person they have just started dating. This makes the D.I.N.K.Y's (dual income, no kids yet) couples a prime target for my movie.
I will give my movie an 18 certificate, which of course only allows over 18's to be able to watch it because of the gory, violent scenes in the film. I'm not going to target my film to over 60's because i believe they wouldn't want to watch this sort of genre movie, so I'm put all my focus on the 18-50/60 audience.
The main social class i believe would watch a hybrid of horror and romance are the working and middle class people. This is because they are surrounded by violence and romance all the time. The working class especially are stereotypically seen in the news as people who do random acts of violence and have the highest number of teenage pregnancies. Therefore a film with gore, violence and relationships might appeal to them.

To find out if people will like the idea of me mixing two opposite genres together, horror and romance, i decided to conduct a survey. I did not tell the people i asked the aim of the survey, so there was no demand characteristics. Although tell them afterwards and asked if they would not mind me using there results so there was no ethical problems.

All together i asked 20 people, of a mixture of ages and ethnicity's. My findings shown:

All 20 people said they enjoyed hybrid films more than films that stick to one genre.
Most people enjoyed the genres comedy, horror and romance most
Majority of people thought that the two genres that go best with each other are romance&comedy and horror&comedy
Majority of people thought genres that go bad with each other are sci-fi&musical thriller&comedy
Majority of people (12) said that they thought horror and romance would go well with each other
14 people said they thought that two opposite genres would go well with each other.

Although the majority of people did say they they thought horror and romance would go well together, there was still a number of people who didn't. The people who said they thought they would not go well together, at the end of the survey i told them my idea of a trailer and asked if they thought it was a good idea. All 8 people said yes and when i asked why they changed there mind, most people said it was a problem the name of the genres. When i said horror they thought of super natural monster etc.

However all the people who said they believed that horror and romantic genres would not go well together were either under the age of 16 or over the age of 40. This age group was not my targeted audience, it was 18 - 40 therefore it does not have too much of an impact anyway. It does not change things it's just goes to show i was right in thinking that those age groups might not enjoy my film as much as my target audience which tell me i chose my target audience correctly.

After my survey i thought about what people and said. The genre horror does stereotypically contain supernatural monsters and ghosts etc, in which my film does not. So i need to find out which genre would suit my movie more as not to confuse anybody, and to put anybody off watching my film.

My Movie as a Hybird

My movie is going to be a hybrid, with the genres horror and romance. These two genres don't usually collide, although occasionally they may be a love story going on between the victims. This makes the audience become more personal with the characters. It makes them happy when it's a happy ending for the pair, but then it upsets them and makes them feel sorry for the couple if one or even both end up getting killed or hurt.

But what is a rare sight in movies is when the murderer ends up falling in love with someone. This is whats going to happen in my film. Even though it's not normally done i believe the two genres will work well together, because they are the two opposites.

Normally the audience judge whether they want to watch a certain film or not by the genre, for example a boy who enjoys sci-fi's might not want to watch a romance film. However because of the two genres iv chosen and they tend to attract different audiences, iv got to portray my trailer in a way that it attracts both types of audiences. My films going to attract boys because they stereotypically enjoy watching gory, violent films. But also girls because they stereotypically enjoy watching romantic, love filled films. This in turn will broaden my target audience.

In film, genre refers to the method of film categorisation, based on similarities in the narrative elements from which the films are constructed. There's no fixed boundaries but are often formed by sets of conventions. Many films cross through into multiple genres, by the way they borrow and combine these conventions. This leads to hybrid genres branching off from the more common genres.

Some hybrid genres:

Action & Comedy
Action, comedy films blend comic antics and action where the film stars combine witty comments with daring stunts and explosive plots. This genre became recognised when comedians like Eddie Murphy started taking more film roles in the 80's. These types of films are often buddy films, with the two main characters being mismatched partners, which is where the comedy comes out.

The comedy, horror films are the type of films where the usually scary and tense moments are approached in the way that they become humorous. Romance & Tragedy Romance movies have always tended to be and still mainly do, end with "they all lived happily ever after". However with all the films ending this way the audience got bored with being able to predict what was going to happen. Therefore film makers started producing films which didn't always have such a happy ending. These films usually had one of the main characters dying or falling in love with someone else.

Most films now a days are hybrid genres. If a film company stuck strictly to one genre in their movie then the audience would be able to predict the ending quite precisely. Comedy and romance are the main genres that have combined with other ones to make hybrid genres. This is because comedy, humor and wit can come into any situation, and audiences enjoy being made to laugh. It's also the same for romance, it can come into any genre quite naturally. The theorist, Janet Stagier, even goes as far to argues that Hollywood films are never pure genres, as most movies blend the love oriented plot of the romance genre, with all other ones.

While researching into gory romantic films, i was trying to find one in which the murderer falls in love. It was really difficult as there are not many movies in which this happen. However i did found this clip of the film 'Red Dragon' a follow on from the Hannibal Lecter films. In red dragon, Ralph Fiennes plays a murdering cannibal who against his will falls on love with a blind woman Emily Watson.

This clip is really good as it shows the frustration of a murderer who's getting feelings for someone, and I'm using this idea.

How im going to shoot my trailer

I'm going to start my trailer with showing the audience the murderer following the first women. He follows her down a wooded alley, and takes a picture of her. She sees a flash and turns around but can't see anyone so carries on. He then grabs her into the bushes and kills her. It then goes onto shots of a big house, and inside is a girl sleeping in bed. The murderer walks in and grabs her mouth to stop her screaming then yanks her out of bed. The audience don't get to see him kill her though. He then starts stalking his next victim. He takes her photograph of her walking into her house, and prints them off and sticks them onto his board. However when he goes to wait outside her house for her the next day, she's already left and they accidentally end up bumping into each other. I go on to show different days out they spend with each other, to show them getting to know each other. One night whilst in bed together, he can't sleep, he looks at the clock and its 2:00am. He goes down the stairs and gets a knife. He then goes back to where she's sleeping, and lifts up the knife but then he can't bring himself to it. He gets frustrated and leaves. Later it shows the same clock at 4:06am, then shows clips of the mans feet in the shower with blood pouring to the bottom of the shower, and clips of him washing away the blood of his hands. This tells the audience without actually showing them that he got frustrated and went out and took his rage out on some other woman.
The trailer is shot in a linear way as not to confuse the audience and so they can get a good understanding of whats going on with out having to think about anything to much.

Institution

After choosing which idea to go along with, i decided to do some research into which institution to use to produce my movie. Firstly i decided i would use a British institution, as my movie will be shot in England, and will use English characters. I found a website, which had all British institutions, then i had to research deeper into what all the intuitions were about, what sort of films they produced etc.

Out of these three i decided to go for Anchor Bay Entertainment because they do a wide range of genres including horror and romance and my movie is a hybrid of both. I decided to not go with my first idea as i thought trying to get my actors to act like there on drugs might be a bit difficult. Also the idea of using drugs might put some people off which would narrowing the target audience, and i want the biggest target audience possible. If i took the use of drugs out of my film, i could make a broader target audience, however it would be too much like my film opening for my media work in 2008/2009, which i do not want to do as i want to do something different to show i have a wide range of ideas and skills.

I also decided not to do my second idea, as i fought it would be a wise move to stay away from the supernatural side of movies and to stay with the realistic, as it would be more sensible with my resources.

Therefore iv chosen to go along with my third idea. It's the most realistically doable out of all my ideas, and with my resources will be the most effective.

Third Idea

My idea is about a male serial killer, who stalks young women who then goes onto murdering them. He's psychotic and has a hatred towards women. He follows them, taking photographs of them, without them knowing, and when there own there own he kidnaps them and mutilates them in horrible ways to show his hatred of females. He then takes photographs of them once there mutilated and
pins them up on his board with the others. However with one of the victims he's stalking he accidentally bumps into them and they start talking, and they decide to go out somewhere together. He sees this as a perfect opportunity of getting her on her own. However once there together he actually starts enjoying himself, so when it comes to the crunch time, he can't bring himself to do it. Afterwards they start meeting more frequently, and he realises he's got feeling for this women, but hates the fact he has, and decides he needs to do something about it and get rid of her. Although yet again he can't bring himself to it, and so he takes his rage out on unexpected women. This women's messing with his head and the trailer leaves the audience thinking whether he goes with his urge to love or his urges to kill.

Second Idea

Opening Scene-

For my second idea i decided to go for the typical opening scene, but with a twist. It starts out of shots of a big scary house, then inside the house is a young girl asleep in bed. Whilst sleeping, her bedroom door creaks open and a man walks inside with a knife. He walks over to the bad and lifts up his knife but as he does a pair of skinny, pale arms shoot out from underneath the bed and grab his ankles and yanks him hard under the bed where he disappears.

The story behind this opening is that the pale arms belong to a dead girl who got murdered a few years before. Because she was murdered in such a horrendous and violent attacks, she comes back from the dead to go after the one who killed her. The only problem with this is that she don't know for certain who it actually was so she goes after anyone it could be. Therefore she kills a number of Innocent people along the way, but not people who are really innocent as there all killers and rapists.

My inspirations for this film were The Grudge and The Ring but with my own twist to make it original. It's similar in the ways that i have used a dead girl coming back to life. However the girl in The Grudge is haunting a house and the girl in The Ring is killing the people who have watched the video. The dead girl in my film will be coming back to get vengeance on her killer, but killing a number of wring people on the way, which i believe is not like any other film.

For this idea i researched into Japanese horror. This is because over the past few years J-horror (for short) has become more and more popular, which has changed the sort of films we watch today. Because of how good the Japanese are at making horror films, a lot of there movies have either been changed into American or entirely remade in America for our viewing. Some Japanese films that got made into American and done well in both counties are 'Dark water' 'The grudge' 'Pulse' 'One missed call' The ring' 'Premonition' 'Recarnation' etc. The Ring was the first Japanese film that made a big impact on the American and English screens in 1998. It aloud the western culture to experience yurei, which are Japanese ghosts which have been bound to the physical world through string emotions which don't allow them to pass on. Depending on what emotion it is that's keeping them on the world is depending on what sort of ghost that it is that is stuck on the earth and unfortunately there usually bound here by vengeance. Like most folklore creatures yurei have traditional appearances and usually stick by a certain set of rules. The yurei are usually female, and wear a white robe looking piece of clothing, which are the traditional funeral garments in Japan. They also usually have long, black, messy hair.

As I'm using the same idea of a dead girl in my film, like the films that inspired me, I'm going to use the same looking girl in mine, the traditional yurei. This image would be a good one to use as it's simple to achieve but very effective. All i would need is to put a black wig and some white face paint onto a young female.

First Idea

Once choosing to do a horror movie, i came up with my first idea. It involved a group of good friends having a good time, who have just finished there A Levels and are about to leave to go to university. They decide to have one big last night, where they will all be together for the last time, before going off there separate ways. They decide to go camping, somewhere far away as not to disturb anyone. As it will be there last time altogether, they decide to make it a good one, and drink lots of alcohol and do some drugs, although they don't normally. It starts out fine, until everyone starts tripping out and seeing things. One of the group goes missing, although the rest are not that bothered as they think he's just got too messy and he'll wonder back soon, although the audience gets to see the young lad get murdered by a masked person. Then a second person goes missing but yet still no-ones too bothered. It's only after when someone goes to have a wee in the woods and finds one of the body's and comes back screaming that everyone starts to get bothered. However when they all go to look the body is gone, and they think the boy was just tripping. However everyone starts seeing people in weird masks in the woods and more of the group get picked off, but no-one knows when there just tripping or if its actually happening. They try to get away, but not knowing whats real and whats just in there heads.

My inspiration for my idea was from the film Shrooms. It's similar in the ways it's young people in the woods who have taken drugs and don't know whats real and whats not.

The title i came up with for this idea was 'XTC' as all the characters would be on estacy.

Choosing a genre

The first thing i had to look at when choosing to do a trailer was which genre to do. I choose to look at action, gangster, horror and romance.

Firstly i looked into action but i decided to not choose this as the genre to my film because all the action films i researched had guns, explosions and fast cars. The main locations were either in the fast cars in a chase or on top of buildings etc. Therefore because of the limited resources i have, and what i can do, iv chosen not to do an action film because i don't think it would be very effective compared to other action films.

Then i looked at gangster movies, but i also chose to go against doing a gangster film trailer. The characters could be easily replicated, as the norm character in gangster films are men in suits. However the main choice of weapon gangsters use are normally guns and a firing gun would be hard to imitate in my trailer. Also most gangster/bank robber films are shot in or around banks which would not be sensible.

Afterwards i looked into romance films. I decided everything in a romance trailer was doable with my resources. The main characters are usually a male and female who fall in love. No weapons or effects are needed, and the normal costumes and locations are what the majority of people where and go every day. However i thought that the whole genre of romance was too predictable and had been done lots of times before. Therefore i choose not to do a romance as i wanted to do a more original and exciting film trailer.

Therefore the one i was left with was horror. As with the romance, there was no guns, fast cars or explosions necessary. The typical location for a horror movie are usually big, scary houses or isolated woods and the normal weapon used are usually knives and axes etc. The stereotype characters tend to be a young female victim and a 'bad guy'. All these necessities which are usually in horror films are all doable with my resources, unlike the action and gangster films and it'll be more exciting then doing a romance.

However after choosing to make a horror trailer, i didn't want it to be typical and predictable. I wanted it to have more a twist and be original, rather then a young female getting chased by the murderer.
